University of Waterloo: A brief Introduction

The University of Waterloo (UW) is situated in the heart of Waterloo, Ontario, approximately 110 km west of Toronto. Its primary campus spans over 400 hectares adjacent to Waterloo Park and Uptown Waterloo, with additional satellite campuses in Stratford, Cambridge, and Kitchener.

As of fall 2024, UW enrolls around 41,000 full- and part-time students—including about 34,200 undergraduates and 6,300 graduates. The campus hosts a diverse international community: roughly 15% of undergraduates and 40%+ of graduate students hail from abroad, representing over 80 countries.  UW also maintains over 300 global partnerships with institutuions in 50+ countries.

The university comprises six faculties: Arts, Engineering, Environment, Health, Mathematics, and Science. Examples include the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science (offering CS, Data Science, Software Engineering, etc.) and a top-tier Faculty of Engineering with 14 undergraduate programs and 26 graduate programs. Across campus, UW offers more than 100 undergraduate and nearly 200 graduate programs spanning computer science, engineering, business, health sciences, arts, environment, mathematics, and pure sciences.
